VALORANT VAN9001 vs VAN9003: TPM, Secure Boot and bans explained
VAN9001 and VAN9003 do not by themselves establish an account or hardware ban. Riot links these errors to TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements. Record the exact message and check the official advice before changing any PC settings.

VAN9001, VAN9003 and VAN152 are different questions
Riot associates VAN9001 with TPM 2.0 and VAN9003 with Secure Boot. VAN152 is discussed separately as a hardware restriction. Riot also announced incorrect error-code displays in September 2026. A code alone is therefore insufficient to determine the underlying cause or the status of a sanction.
Scroll the table horizontally when it does not fit your screen.
| Code | Initial official check | Not established |
|---|---|---|
| VAN9001 | TPM 2.0 | HWID ban |
| VAN9003 | Secure Boot | Account ban |
| VAN152 | Official notice and Riot support | Exact end date |
Record the Windows state before making changes
- Save the complete error message, date and Windows version.
- Use
tpm.mscto read TPM status and specification version. - Use
msinfo32to check BIOS mode and Secure Boot state. - Compare the results against Riot TPM guidance and Secure Boot guidance.
Firmware procedures vary by hardware. Check your device manufacturer's guidance before altering firmware settings; disabling security features is not part of this article.
What if a sanction notice also appears?
Handle the notice and the technical requirement separately. Riot's error display advisory explains why a code can mislead. Continue with VAN152 and sanction periods or VAL 5 and other logins as appropriate.
Do you need to buy a product?
These error codes alone do not support that conclusion. For unrelated product compatibility questions use the Windows checklist and the official XDAY Discord. Riot alone can review a game sanction.
